Understanding supplement ingredient labels

An ingredient name is only the beginning of a product comparison. Check the exact chemical or botanical form, amount per serving, complete formulation and market shown on the current product label. The same brand may sell different formulas in different countries or at different times.

Reading the evidence

  • Distinguish a study of one ingredient from research on the finished product.
  • Look for the studied population, outcome, source date and important limitations.
  • Check interactions, warnings and local regulatory context before treating a claim as applicable to you.

There is no universal ideal dose or form for every person. This site does not give individual treatment or dosing advice. Health decisions, especially with medicines or existing conditions, belong with a qualified clinician.
